Clear and concise feedback

The object of feedback is there basically to understand what the problem is.You may have a feedback problem if:

  • If you leave the receiver more confused about what the problem is.
  • If it takes you an hour and 20 minutes to make one point.
  • If you do 99% of the talking.

A great way to avoid these pitfalls is to being clear concise and direct so there is absolutely no doubt on the other party’s side as to what the problem is. A great way to start is asking ‘Do you understand?’ as much as possible. Talking in a long winded manner to spare the receiver’s feelings rarely leads to improved performance and is just plain annoying. The best feedback sessions are discussions not lectures.
