In the book, pig wrestling, (which is a great read by the way) they tell you that it is your assumptions that get in the way of your problem solving.
If you’re stuck then you need to examine the approaches you are taking at the moment. When examining these approaches you need to look for any underlying assumptions you are making about the problem.
This is a great practice because it forces you to look at any biases you hold and what you’re projecting on to the problem.
There’s a great metaphor in this.
Recognizing the assumptions one has and adopting another point of view leads to a much clearer assessment.
