Social holidays

Back in the day people would consult a travel agent or receptionist to fill up their holiday itinerary, then the internet came along and these two stalwarts were replaced by google.

Now it looks like instagram is muscling it’s way into this space.

Why instagram you ask?

Because Instagram is a visual platform were people try to show off themselves and their environments in the best possible light.

You can also search hashtags so if you’re holidaying in wexford you can simply type ‘Wexford’ and you’ll see a plethora of snaps taking by past visitors to the Model county.

This shift in research sources hints to me that the purpose of vacation time has changed from relaxing and enjoying oneself to bolstering your social media presence.

That for some the goal of holidays is not to have a good time but to appear to have a good time.

After all you know what they say:

If it’s not on social media did it really happen?
