Morty is tearing into his Grandad for his poor plan.
He’s goading Rick and pressing for an admission of guilt.
He wants Rick to own up to his bad plan.
But Rick will not give in and simply retorts:
“There’s no such thing as a bad idea Morty, it’s about execution.”
An interesting theory!
That leads me to hypothesize that Dan Harmon, the creator, believes it’s all about the effort and intricacies you add afterward that make it great.
That for instance a great episode of Rick and Morty can be born out of a seemingly boring storyline like Rick & Morty stay at home and watch TV.
Come to think of it, they did do an episode like that and it was brilliant! So maybe he’s right!
But that episode was made great by the creativity the writers displayed in the TV shows the characters watched.
There was fantastic amounts of novelty and humour crammed into the programmes on their intergalactic TV.
So on the surface and at its most basic it sounds like a bad idea (watching people watch TV) but it was the evolution of the concept and how it was done that made it great.
By that logic it’s not about waiting for good ideas to show up but investing enough time and effort to nurture an inkling of an idea, a baby of an idea into a fully fledged comprehensive remarkable plan.
