There are some who argue that there is no such thing as free will.
That when we see a delicious indulgent chocolate cake it’s already a forgone conclusion that we will eat it.
We may have to take the time to justify the decision, to convince ourselves why the choice is a good one but really scoffing the cake is inevitable.
I think this would be a scary thought for most because to believe it would require admitting to having no control over your life.
It feels like an excuse be for you complacency or irresponsibility.
After all if everything is predetermined why feel guilty? Or why bother trying?
I think in this case there’s no right answer and one should believe whatever makes their limited time on earth more pleasant.
Similar to religion.
If it makes you feel better believing there is a heaven, then go for it!
If you reckon you gain more fulfillment believing this is our one and only chance at life and it pushes you to seize the day better, then more power to you!
Free will is the same in my eyes.
If it’s more comforting to believe that destiny will take care of you and that removes sweating the small stuff, do that!
If you prefer to place your faith in your own two hands and what you can create, that’s the choice for you!
