You go to schedule a social media post but you realise your colleague never gave you the approved text.
So you start to write a message when you remember you owe this colleague a report.
The unfinished report reminds you of data issue you need to speak with your manager about and all of a sudden you find yourself in the Mongolian mountains shaving a yak in order to schedule a social media post.
I think when it comes to yak shaving the choice is less obvious but it’s still there.
Had you known at the start of the day all the tasks required of you, you could’ve prioritised and picked the most important ones to deal with first.
Each time you find a new task you’re faced with a choice – do I maintain my discipline and complete the task I set out to do or do I fall deeper down the rabbit hole?
