Why do people bet on the horse with the longest odds?
The bookies have clearly shown, in an easy to understand fashion, that this horse has the worst chance of winning.
And yet people still bet on it.
Why?
Because they’ve fallen in love with the vision of a potential future where they tell their family and friends they won €500 off a €5 bet.
This projection fills them with excitement and joy from the moment they place the bet to the moment it’s shattered by the reality of long odds.
They’re gambling on a story.
