It was 4 hours into an 8 hour flight and Hilda was doing a great job of not making eye contact or interacting whatsoever with the man beside her with the giant coat.
Then he took his coat off and revealed an extreme knitting badge pinned to his jumper.
Hilda couldn’t believe it. It was unmistakably the same badge she had safely stored in her carry on bag above their heads.
She couldn’t resist, she had to ask about it.
Turns out they had a lot in common and spent the remaining 4 hours chatting nonstop.

I think it’s so funny how our default is to keep our distance and ignore strangers but how quickly that changes once we know they are one of us, they are part of the community, we have something in common.
