I think drama by and large can be nipped in the bud the sooner it’s dealt with.
For example in their one to one Kevin’s manager informs him that he wants Kevin to work overtime next month.
Kevin doesn’t want to work overtime.
In fact Kevin is outraged at being asked but he doesn’t voice his disgust and the manager moves on.
Then as soon as Kevin gets out of the meeting he runs to the water cooler and tells all his work friends who are all outraged on his behalf.
Hearing them confirm his opinion intensifies Kevin’s anger.
Now he feels he has to tell his manager that he will not do it.
Cue a torturous week as Kevin tries to figure out what to say, how best to say it and find the courage to actually say it.
It’s a lot of suffering and anguish that could’ve been eradicated if Kevin just spoke up as soon as he heard it.
