Good taste

I saw an article online entitled – How do I get better taste in music?

And I thought that question implies that there is good music to listen to and bad music to avoid.

One could see advice like the following form from such thinking:

Listen to Vivaldi and avoid Nickelback and rap.

But what if you listen to Vivaldi and find it interminably boring. Does that mean you are doomed to have bad taste forever?

Or what about the fact that the 7 time Grammy award winner Chris Martin is a big fan of Nickelback? Does the fact that he has made Grammy award winning music make him a better judge of music then the general population?

Or how about the award committee at the Pulitzer prize? Surely they got the job for having exemplary taste? But how come they picked Kendrick Lamar to win the 2018 Pulitzer prize in music? Does this mean we can’t trust them or that Kendrick Lamar is now good taste, does it extend to all of rap?

I think there is no such thing as good taste.

I think good taste is a vehicle for snobbery and judgement.

There is only different taste.
