It was their second date, she was in the middle of telling a story when he cut across her with:

‘So, are you seeing anyone else?‘

It’s blunt, obvious and flattering.

If the date was going horribly he wouldn’t be asking. He’d be thinking of ways to get out of there.

The question’s sub text says I want you and I wanna know what I’m up against to get you.

The best scenario here would be to actually be in high demand because this would create a sense of urgency and trigger the competitor in the questioner.

If you are not so fortunate but still wish to create such an effect you can always paint the picture behind embellishments or vague statements.
