Low present expectations

I think guessing presents can create misery.

Because you let your imagination off the leash and quickly your wildest wishes come to the fore.

Then inevitably the present is not your craziest ambition and you’re left comparing the present you got with your wildest dream and disappointment is created.

Better, I think, to not guess at all or keep those expectations super low so that when you do get something better than a turd it creates overwhelming joy.
