‘I’ve become super nice and funny’
The fact that the comment came so out of the blue felt like the speaker was looking for recognition.
Clearly nobody had acknowledged the positive change yet and so explicitly saying it became the method for putting on their radar.
If I say it maybe other people might start saying it!
