Credible excuse

What I thought Hunger Games 2 (the movie) did well was it doubled down on the credibility of the excuse.

So many sequels gloss over the reason to stick the protagonist back in a very similar position to the first film but this franchise nailed it.

They focused on President Snow’s desire to kill Katniss pairing it with the political dangers of having a direct hand in her death.

Then they lingered on it for long enough that it felt like putting her back into the arena was the perfect excuse and we, as the audience, agreed.

For me it contrasts hugely with sequels in the Rocky, Creed, or Fast and Furious sagas where they utilise a thinly veiled excuse to continue the franchise.
