I was delighted to see Man United end Ronaldo’s contract.
My respect for the club and those involved went up a hundred fold.
His interview with Piers Morgan reeked of an ‘I’m too great a player to be dropped‘ kind of arrogance.
Yes he is a great player and I’d love to see him score goals for United but good riddance to him.
Sir Alex had it right when he said:
“No player is bigger than the club”
When a team relies on someone it’s fantastic to see that person rise to the occasion and develop their leadership qualities.
When a team relies on someone and they abuse that to their own ends it’s terrible to see.
You have to nip that behaviour in the bud and remind them ‘no player is bigger than the club‘.
Otherwise they’ll blatantly flaunt rules, undermine authority and stir resentment in their teammates.
