“I never got the nod from the man so I don’t know if my speaking up is welcome or not. I want to contribute but I don’t feel I have the authority.”
I think it’s wild how much importance consent and approval are given in speaking up.
Even if we think our contribution will help the group and we feel the right thing to do, we wait until asked to offer it.
And if that invitation never comes we suppress it to our own harm.
Those who hammered compliance and obedience into the culture years ago did a spiffing job!
