I think, if you require people to kiss the ring before you do anything for anyone else, they will stop talking to you as soon as they don’t need you anymore.
Because it’s a question of dignity.
You’re forcing someone to act inferior to gain your services/favours/enrollment.
Nobody likes doing that. Even those who feel smallest have some pride.
