No effort made

Sometimes it’s just too hard.

The relationship is too far gone.

It has deteriorated too much to be salvaged.

So we don’t make an effort.

‘Why bother?’ we think.

I think giving up on a relationship is absolutely fine when you never see them again.

But it’s terribly painful and awkward when you do see them again and it’s obvious that you’re not making an effort.
