Guilty work

After the atomic bomb was dropped Oppenheimer confessed to feeling like he had blood on his hands (at least that’s how the Chris Nolan film depicted it).

Which raises an interesting question – can you separate your work from how it is used?

Are your skills merely making a rich white man richer?

Would you feel better if your capabilities were helping a charity to help those in need?

Or does it bother you?

Interestingly, I thought, Oppenheimer’s justification that the Germans were going to make their own atomic bomb didn’t seem to assuage his guilt after the bomb dropped also the US president said he was the one with blood on his hands not Oppenheimer (at least that’s how the movie depicted it).
