When an Author builds tension to hook your curiosity and keep you reading it’s considered good story telling.
But when a Marketer uses social proof to convince you to buy a product it’s called manipulation.
Both are using psychology to benefit themselves but I reckon the marketer takes more flack than the author.
To guess at why this happens, I think people are quicker to regret money lost than entertainment time wasted.
I hear ‘we don’t need any more stuff’ all the time but we never hear ‘we don’t need any more stories’.
