It hit home

When I heard stats like ‘ALS affects one in four people’ I was indifferent.

But when I saw a once strong healthy individual crippled by ALS trying to eat by themselves in front of me, not only did it make the disease real but horrifying.

There’s a level of abstraction when it’s strangers. The vagueness hinders the potential to care.
