It wasn’t meant to be

It wasn’t meant to be.

What do you mean?

You just weren’t supposed to be in Paris this weekend

What?

I believe that had you gone to Paris this weekend that you would have been mugged or shot.

In other words a larger than life figure stepped in to help you avoid a disaster.

It’s a logic that crumbles when scrutinized further but it’s not meant to withstand every argument.

It’s meant to be comforting.

Because hypothetically if we’re saying there’s an alternate universe where I was mugged or shot. Does that also mean there’s an alternate universe where I won the lotto?

Funnily enough the alternate universe where you are wildly successful is not referenced when you mess up.

Instead we draw gratitude from the potential disasters avoided.

Because we as humans, are wonderfully creative when it comes to cheering ourselves and others up.

And logic is sometimes overlooked to get into that good mood.
