Familiarity over convenience

The digital version of the Irish Times is laid out the exact same way as the printed version.

Which struck me as odd because it makes for a terrible user experience on any device smaller than a laptop.

It would be much easier to read if they reformatted the articles to resemble blog posts with the text adjusting to fit the whole screen and all the user has to do is scroll down as they read.

Rather than scrolling right, then down a bit left, then right, then down a bit left and so on and so forth.

But then again maybe the digital team are adapting to their target audience?

Who are, possibly, lifelong printed newspaper readers and they prefer reading the news when the format resembles a newspaper?
