Interesting today

Leonard Bernstein was bisexual.

Alan Turing was chemically castrated for being gay.

I think the latter is more interesting because it’s just so alien in today’s world.

And an artist should not ignore the audience it is releasing their work to.

If you were releasing the film in the 60’s then the fascination would probably be reversed.

Chemical castration for gays is mundane news and Bernstein not being a fully heterosexual man would be hot goss.

But times have changed.

Therefore I think the movie ‘Maestro’ was misaligned with its 2023 audience by thinking Bernstein’s bisexuality alone would be enough to keep the audience engaged.

It’s too common place today to be a feature of interest.
