Four boys dressed in black

The four teenage boys on the street corner are dressed identical.

They are all wearing black hoodies, with black tracksuit pants, and black trainers.

Funnily enough each one of them have thought about wearing a white/red hoodie to their crew hang outs.

But it’s only a fleeting notion.

The overwhelming priority of conformity swiftly squashes any interest in individuality.

What’s more each of the boys are blind to the drawbacks of conforming.

They are unable to see, or are in denial of, the anxiety it causes them to be constantly checking for new group norms to conform to.

Furthermore the concern for staying in line with the crew’s ways is having a devastating effect on each of their goals to attract a mate.

The fear of being ostracized is so strong that all other pains are put up with or ignored to avoid the perils of not conforming.
