Painting silence

In the museum there was a painting that asked audiences to sit still with it in silence.

I think the museum’s line of thinking was… If people slowed down and viewed the painting in silence their appreciation for the work would increase.

A request that sounds easy on the surface and yet most patrons could not do it.

They tried different seats, they fidgeted, they went on their phones, they gave up.

It should have been a modern art piece on impatience and agitation.
