One thing that struck me about the Vincent Van Gogh museum was that none of it would have been possible if it wasn’t for his family.
The museum is in his name but he didn’t make himself famous.
It was only after his death that his sister in-law and nephew actually brought him the critical and financial success he craved.
Vincent died believing he was a failure.
While he was alive he was able to create so much work because his family financially supported him his whole life.
First he lived with his parents, then he lived with his brother, then his brother paid his rent.
Without the support from his family we never would have heard of him.
