Time to die

Let’s pretend you are terminally ill.

I would wager that how you spend your remaining time on this mortal plain differs depending on how much time I give you.

With five years to live, it would look like, to the outsider, that you are doing everything the same as pre your death sentence but a small mental shift has taken place where you don’t sweat the small stuff and you appreciate the little wins.

With six months on the clock you feel a freedom to travel, take drugs, tell people what you really think of them, and back out of the office with both middle fingers held high.

With less than 24 hours to the deadline I reckon you savour every moment, spend it with the family and relish in the perfect ordinary-ness of the day.

Now take everything I’ve written here with the biggest bucket of salt as I have absolutely no experience being terminally. I am merely using my imagination.

But if you do agree that you would approach death differently depending on how much time you have, isn’t that weird?
