The mini stadium

September 1st 2011.

It was to be a glorious day.

Why?

Because after 5 years of playing in the muck and mud, we were finally sixth years and earned the right to train in the mini stadium on our school grounds.

The grass was so lush it looked like a thick green carpet!

We were all on the pitch warming up when the coach of the Bowen Shield team came over and asked our coach if we could swap pitches with them.

And so we were told to move.

Despite paying our dues for years, our junior classmen were kicking us off the best pitch.

So, disgruntled, we started warming up on the ‘far’ pitch.

Then the Junior cup coach came up and asked our coach if we could swap pitches with us.

So we got downgraded again!

Now, we’re on the training paddock and there isn’t a blade of grass to be seen.

It’s all squelchy mud.

Now it wasn’t the fact that we had to move. All the pitches were beside each other so we probably walked 300 yards in total. The part that disappointed the team was that we had a coach who didn’t stand up for us.
