Respect in sport

In sport, when the game is long over as a competition, when it’s clear who is going to win, there is a temptation on the winning side to screw about.

I think if the players give in to this it’s a serious lack of respect towards the opposition.

They tried their best. They wanted to win. They know they’re not winning. There is no need to rub it in their faces that they didn’t win.

It would be the most respectful thing to keep playing hard. Keep scoring and showing the opposition respect.

Because let’s not forget that sport is all swings and roundabouts.

You may be up today gloating away but that won’t last forever.
