Worry realm

When new to authority and in the absence of clarity anxiety will cast the responsibility net far and wide.

Therefore sleepless nights and micromanagement follow.

But if we were to take a stranger off the street and say you will be coaching an amateur football team at the weekend for a blitz this would be my advice for not giving them a panic attack.

1) Don’t worry about anyone else arriving on time, you just make sure you’re on time.

2) You can encourage the team to focus but you are not responsible for them actually focusing.

3) You can remind the team of the game plan before every match but it is their responsibility to do it.

4) If you think you have observations that could improve the team then share them and it will be your responsibility to communicate them effectively but once the player understands, it’s on them to implement.

Basically it would simply be clarifying what is within his realm of worry to maintain his sanity and keep anxiety from running amok.
