Why are we doing this?

When the rationale is poor, you hate to hear this:

Why are we doing this?

That question provides a roadblock and ensures that time and energy is being used effectively.

The person who regularly provides this logical resistance will be revered in an organisation that values efficiency.

But that same person would not be a good fit in an organisation that likes silly notions being entertained.

For that kind of organisation you want yes men who will not question your hair brained schemes but carry them out immediately.

It’s a different kind of value added.

The first individual adds value via logic and efficiency.

The second individual adds value to the ego that likes to be entertained.

It’s hard to describe that second one in a job description but hey, that’s what interviews are for!
