Joe pickle had traversed thousands of miles, trekked over treacherous mountains, slid down slippery slopes and pricked his bum on a cactus.
And he had finally arrived.
He pinched himself.
He wasn’t dreaming. He was well and truly in front of the one and only Placana (that was pickle talk for wisest of them all).
‘Oh omniscient one, what is the meaning of life?’
There was no reply.
Joe pressed on with ‘could it be to make as much money as possible?’
And through the shimmering blinding light emanating from the Placana, Joe Pickle heard:
‘It might be’
Joe pickle couldn’t believe it, he had heard the Placana speak but what did he say? It might be?
Maybe I need to keep asking to get it right? thought Joe.
‘Is the meaning of life to dedicate your entire existence to a deity?’
‘It might be’
The same answer again.
‘Is it to sleep with as many women as possible?’
‘It might be’
The same answer yet again.
‘Is it to convert as many people away from Heinz ketchup to chef ketchup?
‘It might be’
‘Ok I see what’s going on here, you’re just saying the same thing over and over again’
‘I might be’
‘Oh very funny! Now I have spent a lot of money getting here and I’m in danger of getting hangry so could you please just cut to the good stuff and tell me what the meaning of life?!?
The Placana then turned off his pulsing aura stepped down off his fake levitation device and said:
‘Fine, the meaning of life is to annoy as much people as possible’
…
‘Really?’
‘Really really’
‘But it doesn’t sound right.’
‘Well we can do a different one for you, how about – to collect as many Pokemon cards as possible?’
‘No, that doesn’t sound right either’
‘Ok well what did you want me to say?’
‘I don’t know, something along the lines of friends and family are the most important things but in a more poetic way’
‘Well there you go, there’s your meaning of life, now off you pop and work on the poetry!’
‘But hang on, isn’t there supposed to be one correct meaning of life?’
‘Oh God no, that would be so impractical’
‘So what everyone is supposed to just make up their own?’
‘Yep’
