Tension-less

I think the problem with trying to sum up an entire life in a movie/play is that there’s no real tension.

It’s just an unfolding of events.

This happened and then this happened and then this happened.

Whether as a story about a moment in time has a villain or an enemy or a threat to add spice to proceedings.

The reason ‘The Dark Knight’ was such a great movie was that you knew the hero would win but for a long time there the Joker looked unbeatable.

The compelling content of the movie was in the battle between good and evil.

Whether as the following is just a recounting of facts:

In 1064,  Britain won the battle of Boyne.

In 1066, Britain won the battle of Hastings.

You can point out recurring themes at the end of a long enough period of time but there’s a distinct absence of tension.
