Social sacrifices – these are the time and effort you spend staying up to date on a certain topic with the sole purpose of participating in a certain conversation.
For example you have no interest whatsoever in Love Island but you watch it every night because that’s all the parents talk about at the school pick up.
Or on the way to visit your grandparents you quickly look up the golf results because you just know it will be brought up.
You only have a limited amount of time on this earth but you carve out a few minutes here and there to be a good conversationalist.
