They said:
“I’m just telling you this so that you know. I don’t want your sympathy, I don’t want you to tell me I’m brave. This is purely just an FYI”
In that regard I felt trapped.
My instinct was to show compassion and commend their courage but they explicitly said they don’t want that.
So, now I don’t know what to say.
And with nothing good to say the best course of action feels like saying nothing at all.
So, it appears that this important news will go unacknowledged.
Their desire to limit responses has worked but I think to the greater good’s detriment.
Because I think the more conversations about social change the more likely it’s going to happen.
