Gertrude, Gimli and Gorgomoth

Gertrude’s identity is very much tied up in doing well at work and even though her boss would say she’s doing a great job but Gertrude doesn’t believe so.

You see Gertrude’s image of what success looks like doesn’t involve this much feedback and she’s taking it as a sign of failure.

We can compare this to Gimli who loves being the joker in the pack and his indicator of ‘status secured’ is to get the whole group to laugh at one of his jokes.

Which he hasn’t got yet but all his friends think he’s great craic. So he shouldn’t feel as disheartened as he does.

Gorgomoth feels certain he’s a great grandad because he taught his grandson to shoot and that, in his mind, is the pinnacle of being a great grandad.

But this image of success doesn’t align with his son’s who shouted at him for traumatizing his son.

Does your image of success need updating?
