Vision of calm

The Christmas holidays hold so much promise.

At least ten days where the world stands still.

You think, finally I’ll get to recharge my batteries.

You imagine curling up all warm and snuggly on the couch with a good book relishing in the slowness of time.

Then reality arrives with crying babies, whimpering dogs, far too competitive board games, relatives arriving when your social tolerance is shot.

Then if you do get any respite it feels minimal and rather than being grateful for it you’re reminded of your initial vision of peace and calm and annoyance blossoms.

Makes you wonder – would you have been better off without the initial vision?
