I think reward, punishment, and fairness runs deep.
We want to believe we live in a meritocratic society.
So if we see someone being rewarded without deserving it (in our opinion) we get annoyed.
Then if it happens repeatedly I believe you see the frustration manifest itself into action.
“No they can’t just keep getting what they want. Deny them!”
I posit that injustice travels quicker to our last nerve than the regular inconveniences of the world.
For example contrast your frustration at the sight of a long queue versus queueing up for a while and then seeing someone jump the queue and being rewarded for it.
It’s like being transported right back to childhood and trying to convince a parent that a sibling got more.
