Helping can be the drug that sneaks up on you.
At first it appears so wholesome and you get such a natural high that you want to do it again and on a bigger scale.
Now, to be clear, I’m not slating helping. Helping is great but like drugs there can be a downside.
You’ve just put in a massive work week, Friday night has arrived and you sit at home not knowing what to do with your life. Instead of confronting the question – what is all that hard work for? You seek out people to help as a distraction.
Or you may plan a delicious day for yourself. One that really excites you but is ultimately discarded at a moment’s notice to make someone else’s life a mite more convenient. Do that a few more times and you sour the high of helping with the bitterness of resentment.
