Home hunting

I think the problem with house hunting is that we have so many unconscious associations with the concept of ‘home’ that it can be nigh on impossible to communicate to your partner why you don’t want to live in what they think is a perfectly good property.

For example maybe deep down in the recesses of our mind we have a memory of sitting at the kitchen table watching our mum work on a batch of scones, with the smell of flour in the air, rays of sun lazily coming through the window and overall a relaxed feeling of time.

And right now, standing in this bare kitchen, with strangers milling around also viewing the house it’s very hard to imagine that scenario but the unconscious hasn’t told us that yet.
