Frank’s perception

(continued from yesterday’s post)

That’s bullshit! Frank typed out ‘You make all these videos, all those blog posts giving advice but when there’s an actual human in front of you asking for advice, you won’t give it to them! What’s that about?!?

That message was left on read for 24 hours as well, so Frank thought it was time for drastic measures.

If you don’t help me I’m going to comment HYPOCRITE on every one of your videos, then we’ll see what all 2 of your followers think of that!’

A video call was scheduled for the very next day.

Ok so what do you think about women? Said the self proclaimed modern masculine.

Yeah they’re alright.

Ok, anything else?

They’re grand.

Hmm ok how about do you have any friends that are girls?

Nah I only try and get with them or I don’t.

Ok, do you have any sisters?

Nope

How do you view your mum?

She passed away when I was young.

Oh sorry to hear that.

It’s fine.

Ok let’s try a different tact. Finish this sentence for me. Women are…

Emotional

Ok good. Emotional good. Now why do you say that?

Because they’re always crying about this, that and the other. Like yes life isn’t great all the time but stop crying and just get on with it!

Ok interesting. And would you say that you get emotional?

No

Never? Not at the end of a sad movie or when a friend moves away? Or when your exam results come back?

Well… Not really.

What about watching sport?

Well I mostly get annoyed at those overpaid babies.

And what about if your team got knocked out?

Yeah actually now that you mention it I did lose the plot when my team lost the final and I threw the remote control at the TV and smashed it.

Ok interesting and would you say that anger is an emotion?

Suppose.

Ok so you could say you get emotional too.

Ya but that’s different.

Exactly! Your emotional default is anger whether as for most women it’s sadness. And crying is not weakness and anger is not weakness. They’re both just different. There are extremely accomplished men who cry. There are extremely accomplished women who get angry.

But getting angry is better than crying.

Is it? If we go back to your team losing the final and you smashing the TV I bet any witnesses to that anger would have thought less of you. They may have thought that you were unhinged and they may have been scared for their safety. They may want to put as much distance between you and them as possible. But if you were crying, someone may have come closer and put an arm around your shoulder and comforted you and you may have felt more connected to them. And all of a sudden you don’t feel on your own anymore.

Frank thought to himself: this is not going how I thought it would.
