Frank’s redemption

(continued from yesterday’s post)

Frank was working the next day and as he walked in to start his shift he spotted Lisa on the tills.

She had no make up on, which was unusual for her and it made Frank wonder – was she expecting more tears today?

It felt weird to see her sitting there.

To her, it was just another day but to Frank he was viewing her in a different light.

He had discussed her emotions at length just yesterday and now looking at her today he reckoned there could still be some lingering sadness inside her.

The thought crossed his mind to go over and say something but the sight of the rest of his colleagues working the tils nearby made him chicken out.

Will I? Won’t I? The dilemma tortured him all day as he walked up and down restocking the aisles.

Then it was his lunch break and the self service line was heaving but Lisa’s til was free.

He walked up and plonked his meal deal lunch on the mini checkout conveyor belt.

She gave him a fleeting smile and started beeping his lunch through.

Then the following thought crossed his mind – Feck it, while I’m here I might as well!

‘Hey… Lisa’

She looked up, her face inscrutable.

‘What those lads did to the fruit and veg display was a really shitty thing to do… I know you worked hard on it’

Lisa blushed and said ‘Oh‘ then a smile forced it’s way on to her mouth ‘Thanks Frank

The seconds dragged on as both of them tried to decide where to look.

Emm I’ll be paying with card by the way’ muttered Frank

No it’s alright’ said Lisa

Huh?’

Just walk on, it’s all good‘ Lisa said giving Frank a mischievous smile.

And just like that, any doubts that he had done the right thing were squashed.
