From a young age my dream career was to be a professional footballer.
Then I wasn’t good enough and I went to college to start a career.
I was insanely jealous of those I grew up getting professional sports contracts.
But as I’ve aged and seen how cruel sport can be as I’ve followed their careers, I’m quite glad I didn’t have a career in professional sports.
As a kid your naivety hides the statistics of how many make it, the contract tensions, the frictions between teammates, and the abuse from fans.
You don’t really understand what an office job is but you see the glory in playing for your country.
