The hero complex is quite interesting.
If I understand it correctly, it sounds like you could make someone run toward a scenario that they would usually avoid like the plague if you framed it right.
For example Derek might loath confrontation and arguments but if there was a damsel in distress and she spun it that Derek was the only one that could save her, we might well see Derek running into the fiery mess that is that interaction.
