Jim spent the majority of the episode hiding.
He was trying to avoid this visitor to the office who he used to be friends with as a child.
But parted ways after Jim’s mum encouraged Jim to play with some kids in his reading group.
To which Jim delivered the message like so:
“I can’t play with you anymore because you’re too dumb”
And the more I wander this earth the more I see the value in being a tactful messenger.
It might be our news to give.
Can you package your preferences well enough so that they know they are being broken up with but it minimises the pain?
Sometimes we have to translate for others.
Imagine Andy Farrell shouting down the walky talky:
“Tell that idiot to get his head out of his ass!”
And the poor pitch side assistant coach taking this message and turning it into…
“Play a bit more conservative Jonny”
Now that’s a tactful translation.
As Winston Churchill once said:
“Tact is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip”
