Semi professional fun

I think so much of elite sports today is taken so seriously.

It’s great to see a sport that is on the cusp of professionalism because it means there’s a good enough standard but also it’s not taken ultra seriously yet.

Like take the women’s rugby world cup for example, the Fijians celebrated each try as if they won the whole tournament.

Or the Samoan coach getting choked up because his players are playing in front of thousands of people and being supported by the locals too.

You don’t see that kind of emotion and gratitude in the mature professional game. For that level it’s all about winning.
