Happiness teflon

It’s funny that we want happiness and detest pain.

Because we seem to be like Teflon for happiness and super glue for pain.

Our first proper salary felt more than enough at the time but give it a few years and we wanted raises.

Nothing compares to the joy of one or two presents at our first Christmas and then we started counting the monetary value of the presents and eventually we end up requesting presents or money.

We should be able to sit watching a beautiful sunset for hours but boredom kicks in so we take a photo and move on.

Even Jonny Wilkinson talked about walking around the pitch after winning the rugby world cup, a life long dream, and feeling a sense of – what now?

Compare that to one case of stage fright in childhood resulting in a debilitating fear of public speaking for the rest of their life.

Or spending months recovering from a break up.

Alternatively never forgiving someone for lying to you.

It seems like the human being is built to hold on to pain and suffering better than happiness.

Happiness seems to trickle through your fingers like running water.

Probably something to do with evolution.
