Misaligned values and actions

On the train from Dublin to Cork I witnessed something of a scene.

Two women were arguing over a seat.

In my opinion, one party was clearly wrong, knew she was in the wrong, was playing the victim and deflecting constantly in the face of very valid arguments.

Reflecting on her behaviour, it seemed she knew she was taking advantage but something was hindering her from doing the right thing.

The feeble attempts to justify her right to the seat seemed to be stemming from a belief that you have to be selfish in this world (in my amateur opinion). And in this tiny crack of ambiguity in the system she felt like she could be rewarded for acting badly.

Maybe she grew up learning no one was gonna share and she saw acts of selfishness go unpunished.

She knows deep down it’s bad but she hasn’t aligned her values and actions yet.
