I think at the heart of most weird behaviour is a sad reason.
They struggle to be honest with themselves about it, so they definitely can’t be honest with you about it.
Therefore odd actions follow.
The husband keeps cheating to try and get his wife’s attention because he’s feeling neglected.
The mother ensures her daughter always needs her so that she can avoid loneliness.
The coach who should want the best for his team seems to sabotage his star player before each game because deep down he’s afraid the player will eclipse his playing achievements.
I think finding the root sadness helps explain the weirdness and foster compassion for the individual.
